Wrong Way

We are in Palmer right now after riding 68 miles yesterday. Half the miles were in the wrong direction, but we were able to take some great pictures. (i'll post them soon) Besides going in the wrong direction, the only other problem I've had is losing a spoke on my rear wheel.

This post is updated with my phone, so it's a little short I know. We plan to reach Fairbanks by Thursday. I will give a good week summary when we get there.

I will still try to blog with my phone the best i'm able, but i'm not sure if I will have a good signal.

Anchorage, AK

We have one full day completed in Anchorage. The weather isn't too bad. Rain comes and goes, but the temperature is between 55 - 65 degrees. Sun up is around 5:30AM and sunset is past 10PM right now. Anchorage reminds me of a mix between Buffalo and Denver, but does not feel run down. There is a lot of weather damage, but everything feels fresh. It's tough to explain, but it is refreshing to say the least.

James and I spent a lot of time meeting new people and hanging out at coffee shops and book stores while we waited for our bikes to arive. We found an REI up here and spent a lot of time gaining knowledge about the area and tips to stay safe until we reach the lower 48. We also want to say thanks to our new friends Kat Moore, Jake Wilson, and Betsy the Dog for allowing us to sleep on their couch (James on the floor) the first night. I am working on adding a section to this page for all the people we meet along the way. The few people we have met have been awesome! I hope to have this section up sometime tomorrow.

We Landed in Alaska

It is 3AM here in Anchorage. The temperature is 51 degrees and it's raining for the next 10 days.

We had some minor trouble with the flights. Our first flight to Chicago was delayed which caused us to miss our connector. We spent a few hours at the airport before we were rescheduled to Seattle. From Seattle, we flew to Anchorage. Total air time was around 10 hours.

We should be able to pick up the bikes Friday morning. We plan to wait in the airport until the bikes arrive to stay out of the rain.

Flying to Alaska DAY 1

I am all packed and an hour away from leaving for the airport. Our flight leaves at 3:44PM. We will be in Alaska at 12:30AM. (4 hours behind Eastern Standard)

We plan to pick up our bikes from the UPS store tomorrow or friday and will begin our trip at that time. The trip is expected to take 4 months and will travel over 8,500 miles.

Off topic, I played my best golf of the year yesterday, I hit the jackpot on my G-Pa's nickle slot machine, and won at poker. I hope my luck continues to this trip.

I will update when we land.
